Opening day
With three games being postponed last week, my daughter's softball season finally started. I was concerned since the team had not been on a field the last 16 days due to rain.
As her team was up first, every batter kept drawing a walk or striking out until it got to her turn batting eighth. Bases were loaded and there were two out and two in. The first pitch bounced twice before it got to the plate and hit her in the leg. Erin just stood in the batter's box while the umpire tried to get her to go to first. Eventually her coach had to run down from the first base coaching box to get her to go to first explaining that getting hit by a pitch is equal to four balls. Per rules her team scored the maximum five times in the inning.
For the first two innings, both teams scored the maximum 5 runs including my daughter drawing a bases loaded walk to knock in the fifth run. Only three balls were put into play combined. In the bottom of the third, the coach's daughter got on a roll and was actually throwing balls over the plate striking out 3 batters allowing one run.
By the time the top of the fourth inning started, it was getting colder as the sun was setting. My daughter who was up second drew another walk though watching her, I knew she would not be bale to hit the ball since she was standing too far away from the plate. She eventually came around to score.
In the field she played three of the four innings in the outfield. Actually stood out there since no balls from either team went that far.
They won 20-16 in four innings as the game is considered finished at the end of the inning where the 90 minute mark is reached. They are going to try to get in a practice before the next game a week from today. Her coaches are working on a make up date for the games missed. If it affects my cast, I will let people know.
